Committees

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall:

  1. have general control of the affairs and program of the branch, subject to the authority of the branch and the provisions of the Branch Constitution;
  2. creates special committees as needs arise;
  3. fills all vacancies in branch offices;
  4. decides matters of branch policy subject to endorsement by the branch in accordance with National Office policy;
  5. Appoints, employs and enters into contracts with salaried employees subject to employment procedures and qualifications approved by the National Office;
  6. renders monthly reports to the branch containing reports of all special and standing committees.

Branch Standing Committees

As a member of the National Association for the advancement of colored people, you know that the most vital jobs in the NAACP are done by our army of volunteers in local branches, like yours, all over America. These volunteers, like you, give their time and energies in the Branch Committees, which guard the interest of minority group citizens, all day, everyday, year in and year out

ACT-SO

ACT-SO is a major youth initiative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Founded in 1978 by renowned author and journalist Vernon Jarrett, ACT-SO provides a forum through which African-American youth can demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific prowess and expertise, thereby gaining the same recognition often only reserved for entertainers and athletes.

Community Coordination

enlists the support of other community organizations on issues affecting the interests of minority groups.

Finance

studies the financial needs of the Branch and shall be responsible for drafting an adequate annual budget

Freedom Fund

Health

Housing

studies housing conditions in the community and addresses complaints while opposing all restrictive housing practices

Membership/Life Membership

works to maintain and increase membership by organizing membership campaigns, soliciting new members and securing renewals. Also, focuses on recruiting Life Members by sponsoring a continuing program to this end.

Political Action

works to increase the number of registered voters seeks the repeal of racially discriminatory legislation and improve the administration of justice.

Press and Publicity

secures publicity for the work of the Branch and the Association and serves as liason to the CRISIS. Also, promotes positive images in the media and works to eliminate employment segregation in radio, television, and other areas of this industry.

Religious Affairs

works to give moral and ethical interpretation to civil rights initiatives and enlist the support of religious groups of all denominations.

Youth Work

coordinates programs and serves as advisors and mentors for senior and youth groups.

Legal Redress

investigate all cases reported to it; supervise all litigation in which the Branch is interested and keep the National Office and the Branch informed on the progress of every case. It shall not give general legal advice.
