ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
ARTS & SCIENCE
YOUTH GRADES 9-12

Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. ACT-SO mobilizes the adult community to promote academic and artistic excellence among Black youth — recognizing talent and providing skills, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities.

MISSION

Mobilize adults to promote academic and artistic excellence

Recognize creative talent and academic achievement

Provide students with skills to establish goals and build confidence

ELIGIBILITY

Students of African descent, US citizens enrolled in grades 9–12. Local Gold Medalists advance to national competition with scholarship opportunities.

The Johnson County NAACP thanks area churches who have encouraged their members to join the NAACP and supported this branch in its endeavors. The Religious Affairs Committee includes ministerial and lay religious leaders who are branch members.

Many African American families, like most Americans, struggle to obtain wealth that will benefit their immediate family and community. The Economic Development committee assists businesses and helps establish asset development infrastructure within communities of color.

Responsibilities

Identify Black-Owned and Minority-Owned businesses

Network with businesses for fundraisers and partnerships

Partner with and maintain sponsors

Provide economic education resources
